Joani Koenig LM, CPM
Joani was raised with a natural approach to health and wellness as the daughter of a chiropractor, later attending chiropractic college herself before transitioning into the world of midwifery. During her own nine deliveries, she used the services of midwives and experienced a variety of birth scenarios. From preeclampsia, hospital transfers and big babies, to swift water births and so much more in between – each experience only further fueled her passion of caring for women in birth. Over the last 33 years, Joani has walked alongside growing families in their quest for holistic care as childbirth educator, doula, lactation support person and birth assistant until her path finally led her into her current role of Licensed Midwife.
In 2010 she launched Joyful Beginnings Birth Care as a private home birth practice serving the New Braunfels and surrounding areas. Today, Joyful Beginnings now proudly offers the additional option of birth center delivery at our convenient location across the street from Christus Santa Rosa – New Braunfels.
Joani has served in a professional role for over 650 births, and as a midwife for more than 550 of them. She maintains a network of professional relationships with those providing services to women and their families during the childbearing year. She served as President for the San Antonio Area Midwives Association from 2018-2020, and currently teaches Module One for the Association of Texas Midwives Midwifery Training Program.
When she’s not catching babies, this mother of nine and “Nana” to one (so far!), can be found sitting on the back porch with her husband Mark and their two dogs Lucy & Bella. (and often several of the “kids” that swing on over for a free meal and lots of laughs!)
